First 10 things to do

1. Finish the tutorial quests. The port quest NPC unlocks your first ship, the Horizont, and teaches the basics.
2. Unlock Fast Travel and Escort. Both skills are mandatory. Fast Travel moves you between ports instantly, Escort lets you manage several ships.
3. Build your first mine on iron. Iron drives all progression. Find the closest iron mine to your spawn.
4. Add a wood mine. Iron plus wood is the foundation of your economy.
5. Save for the Blackwind. Skip La Salamandre and go straight from Horizont to Blackwind on the combat line.
6. Build ships at faction discount ports. Each ship has a faction flag. Build at a port of that faction for 25 percent off materials.
7. Create your personal island at level 9. Place it near black waters, which you can enter from level 12, for better resources.
8. Build the Plate Workshop first. The first building costs only gold, and every later building needs plates.
9. Finish five core buildings before level 20. Costs jump at levels 11 and 21. Workshop, Pier, Mission Hall, Lighthouse, Warehouse.
10. Trade north to south. Buy sugar and salt in northern ports and sell them in the south. The best early gold.

Ship progression

There are three sensible lines. The combat line, Horizont to Blackwind and onward, is best for beginners. The transport line suits players who want to trade. The heavy line toward ships like the Constitution is for arena fights later. Whatever you pick, carry your resources to a discount port before you build.

Personal island and mines

All mines must sit within 7,000 distance of your island for auto-collection; hold Ctrl and hover over the island to see the range line. Early on, build one iron and one wood mine near spawn. After level 12, build a new island in black waters, demolish the old mines and move your resources. The endgame setup is two iron mines, one coal and one wood.

Trading for gold

Goods sold in the north are not available in the south and the other way round. Buy sugar first, salt second, then wine, grog and beer, sail to the other half of the map and sell. Never fast travel back empty: buy southern goods for the return trip. Ignore the middle ports, they do not take part in the arbitrage.

Boarding and capturing ships

1. Bring the enemy below 50 percent health. You cannot board a healthy ship.
2. Check their crew. Press E near the ship to see its crew count in the top left and compare it with yours in the bottom left.
3. Close in and press Space repeatedly to start the boarding fight.
4. More crew wins. The fight is automatic. If you have fewer crew than the enemy, you lose and your ship sinks. Only board ships with smaller crews.

Captured ships can be sailed, sold or dismantled for resources. Recruit crew at ports, in your island tavern, and by upgrading crew capacity.

• Join a guild early. Guild territory and shared knowledge matter.
• Do not rush ship tiers; a well-crewed smaller ship beats an empty big one.
• Learn from small mistakes and avoid the big one: selling rare currencies.
