How to make money in World of Sea Battle

Gold in World of Sea Battle comes from players: everything on the exchange was mined, crafted or looted by someone. The trick is to stack income that keeps working while you sleep with income you earn at the helm.

This page assumes you have finished the tutorial; if not, start with the beginner guide and the World of Sea Battle hub. We do not quote gold per hour figures, because prices on the exchange are set by players and change with every patch and every war. What we give you instead is the order in which the income sources unlock and how to combine them.

New players: quests, merchants and boarding

Tavern quests come in three categories. The Gold quests are harder and pay the most; take them as soon as your ship can handle them. Since B17 you no longer pay rum to accept a quest, so there is no reason to skip a cheap one on your route. B20 added rare missions in pirate cities that pay double.

Between quests, hunt NPC merchants. Inspect a ship before you engage to see what it carries; gold and building materials are what you want. Merchants are softer than military NPCs, but killing a faction's merchants makes that faction's NPCs come after you, so do not farm the same faction near its own ports.

Boarding pays twice. A captured ship can be invited into your squadron, sailed to port and dismantled for beams, wood and fabric, which saves you crafting beams from scratch (100 wood and 5 iron each). Empty the captured ship's hold before you dismantle it, or the cargo is lost.

Passive income: island, mines and workshop

From captain rank 9 your personal island turns time into materials. Mines inside roughly 7,000 distance of the island are collected automatically once you have the Mission Hall. Iron sells and is needed everywhere, so the common setup is two iron mines, one coal and one wood. The island workshop crafts heavy items about 20 percent cheaper in resources than a port, and you can only run one workshop type at a time.

The quiet money is in converting raw resources into parts. Plates and bulkheads (70 iron and 1 resin each) are needed by every shipbuilder, and selling parts saves the buyer a crafting step, which they pay for. Full details in the personal island guide and ship crafting guide.

Trading: the mid game money maker

A floating market from the update B19 announcement. Trade hubs like this are where price differences turn into profit.

Every port has an exchange, the map shows how much each trading house holds, and since B19 the exchange has name search and price indicators. That makes price checking fast. The basic loop is to buy a good where it is produced, haul it to where it is scarce, and never sail back empty. Community reports agree that grog moves from northern ports to southern ones at a profit; check live prices before you commit a full hold, because guides disagree about other goods.

Two official perks make trading pay more for organised players: the Trade Union delivery contract bonus (20 to 50 percent since B19) and the guild privilege Unified Market from B21, which lets you buy from exchanges of neighbouring ports within a 3,000 radius for a 7 percent delivery fee. Routes, ships and risk are in the trading guide.

Combat income for mid players

  • Hunt mode. B21 raised rating, Battle Mark and experience rewards and made damage dealt and taken count more. The mode is now for ships of ranks III to V only, and the allowed rank gap in one battle rose from one to two.
  • Imperial forts. B21 raised starting resources by 60 percent, shifted rewards from heavy resources toward fragments and keeps the loot for 15 minutes after a fort falls instead of 10. B19 made forts much harder solo, so bring a group.
  • Whaling. Since B21 the player who dealt the most damage to a whale gets first claim on the loot, every participant still gets experience, and loot nobody picks up within five minutes becomes attackable again.
  • Smuggling. B20 raised the smuggling bonus by 30 percent.

Stop the leaks

Every sinking costs cargo and integrity. Repairs are a running cost, so avoid fights you cannot win.

Earning gold is half the job; most players lose more than they think:

  • Sinking costs cargo and integrity. Since B21 integrity repair takes 30 seconds plus 2 minutes 30 seconds per point and costs 25 percent more than before. Every needless death is a tax.
  • Carrying everything everywhere. Bank resources at your island or warehouse before you sail into danger.
  • Buying parts you could craft. Early on, time is cheaper than gold.
  • Selling rare currencies. Battle Marks, Voodoo Skulls and Escudos pay for unique ships and endgame items. Never dump them for quick gold.
  • Ignoring free stuff. The B21 guild privilege Free Voyage gives each member one free game mode per day.
