Beginner economy mistakes in World of Tanks

Most new accounts do not die to bad aim. They die to an empty credit balance at tier VIII. These are the mistakes behind it.

By Mobile Games Guide EditorialUpdated
The ruleEach tier roughly doubles the cost of repairs and ammo. Your income does not double with it. Above tier VI, free-to-play accounts need a credit plan.

Mistake 1: rushing to tier X

New players race up one tree, arrive at tier VIII with a stock tank, a one-skill crew and no credits, and get farmed. Spend time at tiers V to VII. Fully upgrade vehicles, train crews and bank a few million credits before moving on.

Mistake 2: skipping modules

A stock tank is a worse tank. Use free experience from your best battles to unlock the gun and the turret first, then the engine and tracks. Blueprints cut the research cost, so collect them from events.

Modules first, next vehicle second. A fully upgraded tier VI beats a stock tier VII.

Mistake 3: premium ammo on everything

Premium rounds cost several times more than standard ones. Load them for the targets that need them and switch back. Players who spam gold ammo lose credits even in winning battles.

Mistake 4: wasting gold

Gold is best spent on garage slots, converting experience when you really need a module, and premium time. Avoid spending it on consumables, crew retraining at low tiers or cosmetic items while you still lack a credit maker.

Mistake 5: ignoring reserves and missions

Personal reserves add credits and experience for a few hours. Daily missions pay out every day. Activate reserves when you sit down for a session and finish daily missions before anything else.

Mistake 6: no credit maker

Pick one vehicle that earns well for you, a tier V to VII premium or a cheap tech tree tank you play well, and use it to fund the expensive tiers. Read which premium to buy first.

Fix list

  1. Stay at tier VI to VII until you win there.
  2. Research modules before the next tank.
  3. Carry a mix of ammo and switch on purpose.
  4. Spend gold on slots and premium time only.
  5. Run reserves and daily missions every session.
  6. Get one credit maker and play it when the balance drops.
