Affiliate Disclosure – MobileGamesGuide

Affiliate Disclosure

MobileGamesGuide is reader-supported. Some articles on this site contain affiliate links. When you click an affiliate link and sign up for a service or make a purchase, we may receive a commission at no additional cost to you. Affiliate disclosure page explains how that works.

What is an affiliate link?

An affiliate link is a special URL that identifies us as the referring site when you visit a partner’s website. If you complete an action the partner is tracking – usually a free signup, account registration, or purchase – they credit our referral and pay us a commission. The price you pay (if any) is identical to what you’d pay coming through any other channel. You don’t pay extra because the link was affiliated.

Partner programs we participate in

We participate in partner programs offered by game publishers and gaming-related services. The specific programs change over time as we add new game coverage or as programs are restructured. As of our most recent review, our active partnerships include:

  • Game publisher partner programs for titles we cover regularly
  • Gaming-adjacent service partnerships where relevant to our audience

When an article contains an affiliate link, we identify the partnership within that article – you’ll see it clearly stated, not hidden in fine print. If you’re not sure whether a link is affiliated, look for the disclosure note in the article itself or contact us.

How affiliate links work technically on this site

All affiliate links on MobileGamesGuide pass through a tracking layer that adds the rel="nofollow sponsored" attribute, in accordance with Google’s webmaster guidelines for paid relationships. This is the same standard used by major publishers (Wirecutter, IGN, PC Gamer, etc.) for marking sponsored or affiliated links.

What this means for you, the reader:

  • Affiliate links are clearly marked in our content as recommendations
  • Clicking them takes you to the partner’s website as normal
  • The link technology doesn’t add cookies or track you beyond the referral itself
  • You can always copy the link destination and visit the partner directly without using our link, if you prefer

Editorial independence

This is the most important section of this disclosure: our affiliate relationships do not influence our editorial decisions.

We don’t:

  • Inflate tier rankings or ratings for games or items we’re partnered with
  • Hide criticism of partnered games or services
  • Recommend products or services we wouldn’t recommend without the partnership
  • Cover games solely because they offer a partner program
  • Accept review copies or compensation in exchange for positive coverage

If we recommend something via an affiliate link, it’s because we genuinely think it’s a reasonable choice for the kind of player we’re writing for in that context. If we ever publish something that contradicts this, please email us – we’ll either fix it or explain why we made the call.

How affiliate revenue is used

Affiliate commissions support the operating costs of running MobileGamesGuide – hosting, domain, software, the time we spend producing content. We don’t have an outside funding source; affiliate revenue and advertising are how we exist as a project.

If you find our content useful and want to support what we do, using our affiliate links when you’d be signing up for something anyway is the most direct way. There’s no obligation, and we don’t gate any content behind it.

Other forms of monetization

Beyond affiliate links, MobileGamesGuide also displays contextual advertising through Google AdSense. These ads are served by Google and selected based on Google’s ad targeting – we don’t choose specific advertisers, and we don’t have direct relationships with the brands shown.

For details on how Google uses cookies and personal information in this context, see our Privacy Policy.
